10 Things to Prepare for the Virtual CDH Race

Tiny Hero CDH Awareness Walk - St. Pete

We are so excited for this year's Tiny Hero Virtual Walk | Run | Bike! The great thing about this event is that you can participate from anywhere in the world. By getting involved, you can help raise money and CDH awareness in your community. Invite your friends and family to join in the fun and share your Tiny Hero's story on social media— just don’t forget to tag us so we can give a shoutout! We want to know who you are running for and why!

Now, whether you’re a seasoned marathoner, an Ironman, or a tour-de-France cyclist, here is a list of 10 things anyone can do to prepare for the big day:

  1. Make sure to register for the race and get your bib and medal (optional)!

  2. Get your race outfit ready. Make sure you go to the Tiny Hero store and order some limited-edition race swag for this year. Remember that items can take 7-10 days to be delivered, so give yourself enough time to order your gear!

  3. Start going on walks (or runs) for 30 minutes before race day. You will get to know your limits and also give yourself the best chance of completing the race comfortably and successfully.

  4. Find your own rhythm when you're running, walking or biking. It might be better to take short walking breaks, allowing you to run farther in the long run. The run-and-walk technique also reduces your risk of injury.

  5. Invite your friends, family members, or even your community to get involved. You can decide on a spot to meet and a time to do the race. Invite family members who aren't nearby to join from where they are and video call you to celebrate after crossing the “finish line.” They can participate anywhere!

  6. Make sure to pack all the snacks you'll need for your big day. Also, don't forget to pack enough snacks for your Tiny Heroes! We all love snacks.

  7. Pack a bag with all of your running gear. This may include clothes, shoes, sports watches, running belts, sunblock, water bottles, phones, hats, visors, sunglasses, headphones, and snacks.

Caution: Don't wear new gear on race day. Try out new clothes and shoes during your training and stick to the most comfortable ones.

  8. Start drinking water to keep hydrated. It's better to stay hydrated throughout the days leading up to the race. Drink regularly, but not excessively.

  9. Nourish your body! Make sure to give your body what it needs to increase your performance. Ensure your meals include all the nutrient groups (dairy, whole grains, fruits and vegetables, and healthy proteins).

  10. Print out our Tiny Hero Race posters! Click here to get access to our 2024 posters & donation printouts. You can print them out and share them with friends and family. You can also clip them to your stroller or shirt! We want everyone to know what CDH is and invite them to join our Tiny Hero family.

We’re thrilled about our Annual Tiny Hero Walk | Run | Bike! Thank you for supporting all of our Tiny Heroes and for spreading awareness about CDH. We could not do it without all your support and love. Our Tiny Heroes ran (and some are still running) the CDH marathon — now it’s our turn to run for them. So get your running/walking/biking shoes ready to go and go make a difference!
